Ravel: Le Tombeau de Couperin

Get ready for an evening of musical innovation as the Frome Symphony Orchestra presents a chamber music concert.

Weber’s Bassoon concerto will be performed by the Wells Cathedral School concerto competition winner Eli Massey. A powerful four-bar introduction leads into a beautiful soaring melody on the bassoon.

Ravel’s “Tombeau de Couperin.” is an exploration of Ravel’s homage to the Baroque era and French culture. Originally composed as a tribute to fallen friends of World War I, this suite of six movements blends poignancy with grace, revealing Ravel’s unique musical voice.

Experience the timeless brilliance of Ludwig van Beethoven’s Symphony No. 7. From the rhythmic vitality of the first movement to the jubilant energy of the finale, each section unfolds with remarkable precision and depth, showcasing Beethoven’s unparalleled skill and innovation. From the soaring melodies to the powerful crescendos, every note will resonate with emotional significance.

Eli Massey is a 17 year old bassoonist from Andover. When she was nine, she began her studies at her local primary school, where she was introduced to the bassoon. She joined Wells Cathedral School as a music specialist, aged 11 and since then, her career has progressed rapidly. Since 2024, she has participated in various competitions such as the Rotary Young Musician Competition (2nd place), the Windsor Maidenhead Concerto Competition, and the Wells Cathedral School Concerto Competition (1st place) as such, Eli will be performing the concerto with the Wells Cathedral School Symphony Orchestra July 2025.
